4 animals that can predict the weather

Without a doubt, one of the great challenges for meteorologists and also for scientists is to make a weather forecast that is assertive and punctual. After all, it is not easy to interpret the various atmospheric signals – related to temperature, pressure and other factors – to “guess” whether it will be sunny or raining in the coming hours, days or weeks in some cases.

However, believe it or not, some animals have this ability innately, being able to predict some weather conditions. Do not believe? Then check out this list of 6 animals that can help us create a very reliable weather forecast.

1 - Ants

Believe it or not, the behavior of ants can indicate the change of weather. By fleeing to the anthill and plugging the holes to avoid flooding, these animals give a clear indication that rain is on the way. The construction of an anthill also indicates that the insects “feel” that the next few days will be favorable for this work.

2 – Toads and Frogs

Toads and frogs like humid environments and, therefore, rain is one of the greatest allies of these amphibians. It is normal to find these animals in places that have just received rains.

However, the permanence of the animals in these areas for a longer time is an indication that the sun may take a little longer to appear. So if you hear the croaking of toads and frogs near your house, it's likely that rain is on its way.

3 - Squirrels

Another group that also have this ability to predict the weather is squirrels are also animals that are somehow able to predict when the cold season is coming to an end.

During the winter, these intelligent critters build their nests in lower trees to protect themselves from freezing winds. When they feel that the cold is ending, they start to build their houses in higher places.

4 - Bears

As animals that hibernate during the winter, bears can help predict when the cold season is coming to an end.

In regions where these animals are common, seeing them more often walking through the forests on frosty days can indicate that spring is approaching.

However, it is also common for some bears to wake up during hibernation “by mistake”. If this happens and the animal goes back to sleep, it is an indication that the cold season will still take a while to pass.

And you, what did you think of these curiosities about animals that can predict the weather? 🙂
