Recently, the giant platform YouTube, removed the Dislikes button on YouTube, a decision that did not please everyone - including I share the same thought. In a public note, the company says the measure aims to protect creators from harassment and coordinated attacks, but critics believe this will make it more difficult to find useful and reliable content.
Some have proposed using comments like the new dislike button, but the action is hard to sustain in the long run to be quite honest. Alternatively, a programmer tried to restore the platform to its former normality through a browser extension, which is currently available for Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge and Brave. With this extension, it is possible to reset the dislikes count.
The extension is not perfect and, to date, the alpha version only works with videos that have dislikes registered in the YouTube API, which means that once the functionality is no longer available globally, it will be impossible to obtain this metric of such a precise form – but I personally believe it should be maintained, as it is possible to get from the creator's side through YouTube Studio.
You can download the extension for free through this link with the official website.
And you, what did you think of YouTube's removal of the dislikes button?
