Does leaving the PC on for a long time really ruin it?

After all, does leaving the PC on for a long time really ruin or compromise the life of the equipment? Understand in a practical way!

Leaving the PC on for a long time really ruins it.

It's a very common and recurring question! Is it really that the computer spoils by staying for a long time without shutting down? With that in mind, I went deep into research and now I'm going to share in this article what I find, including the research source.

The information is divergent, there is no consensus on which is the best strategy and what counts is the user's own experience. According to some reports it is better to avoid turning off your computer several times, for others it is necessary to save the life of the components with regular shutdowns. But, why? Check it out in full and find out!

According to some users and specialists in the segment, it is best to turn it off as often as possible, as the equipment wears out more with the on-off cycle than with a constant state of operation for several days or months in a row. The vital thing in this process is that you keep your PC always well ventilated, with fans according to your needs.

If you play a lot, for example, your PC will get hotter than your mother's computer that uses Word or Google Docs. In this case, quality refrigeration will be required, and then, it can go for days on end without a shutdown.

In addition, a cleaning in this case will be of extreme necessity. Opening, cleaning and removing the accumulated dust will make your cooler spin perfectly and give you the necessary cooling. As a last resort open your CPU and put a fan facing the hardware, hardcore gamers will understand.

Leaving the PC on for a long time really ruins it.

But why are we hitting the PC temperature “key” so much? Because the problem is not that it stays on, but the heating that will be generated from it.

And this indeed inspires care, as the system has a self-defense mechanism in which, when it reaches a certain temperature, it will automatically turn off, and data loss, parts burning, among other factors may occur.

In fact, just the fact that it heats up a lot during use can already cause damage to the machine.

The computer is a machine and as such, it was designed and built to work, correct? However, some system “restarts” will be necessary at times. When? At least every 2nd Tuesday of each month.

And why this day? 'Cause it's the day the Microsoft launches automatic updates on Windows Update, and after installing them, you will need to restart your computer for them to take effect.

Still, it is highly recommended that you restart your computer periodically to clear the RAM. After a long time on, it is normal for the memory to accumulate "temporary files", coming from the software and applications opened by you and the system, causing the PC to slow down. Restarting it will make it fast again.

Another problem that can be caused by constant use of the machine is the monitor “recording” images that are displayed for a long time.

This problem is called “Burn in”, as the defect is caused by the overheating and burning of the pixels in the region) and occurs mainly with computers in 24-hour establishments, which are always displaying the same static image.

But do not think that home users are free, on the contrary, if you are always browsing the internet or connected to Facebook, your monitor may “record” the scrolling sidebar, for example.

To avoid this, the screen saver function was invented. Well, if you're going to leave your PC on for a long time, at least turn off the monitor and don't have that worry for nothing.

Regarding servers, don't worry, servers have special parts like “super” SSDs that are designed to NEVER shut down. The most damage that can occur on these large machines is a blown cooler and/or the need for replacement. No more than that.

What about laptops in general? Well, if you only use the mobile computer, we emphasize that the precautions should be the same, or rather, be even greater. As for the so-called heating of the machine, always take care of the cooler outlet, where the notebook releases hot air and prevents its components from spoiling.

The outlet is usually on the sides of the laptop, precisely to avoid being obstructed, the problem is that we often use it, some people use it in bed, for example, and accidentally, the covers block the air outlet, preventing hot air from coming out. , accumulating inside the machine and causing damage.
