How to make the site in WordPress fast?

Is your WordPress site very slow and you don't know what to do? These tips can help you change that scenario forever!

The loading speed of a website or webview of an application is a very important aspect, both for IF THE and for the best user experience. For users, it is frustrating to wait for a site to load for a long time, and often when it does more than 5 seconds the user leaves your site.

For Google, it is not interesting to present its users with a site that they are likely to leave next. All the design work as well as content creation will be in vain if users don't have the patience to visualize. To solve this problem, in this article I will be listing some simple tips to optimize your application. WordPress. Here we go? (not the meme!)

I chose the WordPress because in addition to being the most popular website management platform in the world, it is the one with the greatest support from the developer community, who constantly develop new add-ons (aka plugins), tutorials and frequent updates. Depending on the platform you are going to optimize, you will need to research the plugin and/or the equivalent solution, but the concept behind it remains basically the same.

Pingdom Tools

THE Pingdom Tools is a tool of DNS diagnostics, it analyzes the HTTP and/or HTTPS requests made by your website. In other words, requests for images, scripts, style sheets and external resources (social widgets, videos, iframes, ajax, among other solutions).

The most interesting thing is that the Pingdom generates a report with all the files on your site, showing the moment when the file was requested, how long it took for the server to respond, the loading time, and when the request was completed.

In this way it is possible to identify the famous "bottlenecks” performance that you would otherwise probably not notice manually, such as heavy files, slow server, external scripts, broken links (404, 403), among other variables.

Another interesting feature of Pingdom is that it shows how long it takes for your website to load in different places in the world, because depending on the distance from where your website is hosted, it may load slower.

Taking advantage of the “hook”, if you need solutions in Cloud Computing, with resources that will meet your demands and optimize your website globally (high scalability), I invite you to get to know my startup's platform: the Blenner, targeting the market B2B and B2C, including Brazil and 7 more countries in the world.

PageSpeed Insights

THE Page Speed Insights is an excellent diagnostic tool that measures your site's performance and suggests alternative ways to further improve your instance's overall load. It does not necessarily effectively measure the loading speed, but it checks the important aspects for a better performance and suggests improvements, such as enabling the cache, reducing the size of images, adding javascript at the end, among others.

With Page Speed you will learn good development practices that will help you to write cleaner and more organized code that will not only reflect on the performance of the sites, but will also facilitate the maintenance of the sites and will have positive impact on SEO.

Install only Essential Plugins

THE WordPress has plugins for pretty much every website need, and that's a good thing. However, some plugins are true performance villains and even the lightest ones generate some extra processing. For this reason, it is important to pay attention to the plugins that are installed on your website.

A useful tip is: disable plugins that are not needed at the moment and uninstall those not in use for a long time. The biggest villains of performance are the plugins that access external servers, like the comment system Dials or social sharing bars like the AddThis.

These plugins need a lot of scripts and style files to work and this makes your site slower and heavier, especially on 3G connections. Use the Pingdom Tools to identify plugins that are delaying your site from loading.

Another alternative, if you really need to use the installed plugins, you can configure the cache (with your provider or also on Blenner OS), to make loading certain files in “.css“, “.png“, “.jpeg“, “.jpg” or “.js” are distributed statically to the whole world, so there is no request on your server to load these specific files. The speed will increase considerably.

Content Delivery Network (CDN)

As stated earlier, the further away your site is hosted, the slower it will load. To solve this problem there are CDN solutions, which in Portuguese means Content Distribution Network. What CDNs do is distribute their content across servers around the world, so when a user accesses your site, he connects to the closest server, making access much faster.

Some solutions go beyond that, reducing the size of files and generating cache. Some people will miss a topic about server optimization and I confess that I thought of adding, but this is a question too complex and delicate to cover in just one topic. Soon I will be writing an article with tips on choosing a Cloud server, as well as configuring it for performance, security, among others.

Hope this helps!
