Review: Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight or just DBD is one of the most well-known and popular games around the world, being a horror game with an exclusive focus on multiplayer mode, with unique items and experiences. As in other games, dead by daylight – DBD does not have a storyline, since the objective is in online mode. In short, there is only one explanation for uniting four survivors in the same environment, future victims of a serial killer, a maniac who prowls the scene and intends to eliminate one by one, without pity. But can the game really please? Check out my review and find out whether or not it's worth playing!

The main objective of Dead by Daylight (DBD) is that four players control the survivors, while a fifth is in charge of the killer. There are differences between the available modes, namely: survivors are weaker, faster and can use different equipment. Also, its gameplay is in third person. The assassin, on the other hand, is slower, but cannot be killed, and its gameplay is in first person, with three different variants.

Survivors have the option of utilizing skill sets, which will help counter the threats the killer prepares throughout the stage. The objective varies practically, but the ultimate goal is always to escape with your life, completing paths or turning on the generators. In practice, Dead By Daylight also has interesting ideas at this point, which involve managing resources – in the case of generators, preventing them from exploding, and not just simply turning them on.

Quite objectively, the DBD is extremely tense on several occasions. At all times you will have the feeling of being pursued by the killer, even more so because of the third-person view for the survivors. In fact, one of its greatest assets is this atmosphere, which even exists in other games of the type, but which is exponentially greater here.

Even so, the scenarios are always randomly generated, which is an advantage for those looking to play over and over again. Dead by Daylight has an excellent level of variety, especially in relation to the way the scenarios are generated, thanks to the possible hiding places, execution points and objectives scattered across the map.

Also, Dead By Daylight is even better when playing with a familiar group. As it depends a lot on the cooperativeness between the characters to survive, playing “alone” in a group is not so worthwhile. The game can be boring if you don't have friends who bought the title to enjoy it with you.

Regarding the graphic aspects, the look of Dead By Daylight is pretty cool, but not surprising. At least it's a little better than the graphics of other games in the same category, which are usually really weak. The settings are uninspired in terms of design, but the characters and the killer are well animated and represented.

My opinion
  • Graphics
  • Interface
  • Fun
  • Gameplay
  • Functionalities
4.5

Conclusion

Based on my experience, I can say that Dead By Daylight (aka DBD) is a very interesting experience. In practice, playing on the controller slightly improves the overall experience and enjoying the matches, whether in the shoes of the killer or even as survivors, remains as fun as before. Personally, my favorite is Assassin mode (Killer mode). Still, the game makes a great effort to be varied, with generated scenarios and plenty of customizable content available. There are a few minor visual bugs and internet connection issues, and overall it's a lot more fun just when playing with a group of people.
