After a long wait, since its announcement in mid-2018, the partnership between Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment finally resulted in Super Marios Bros. The film. An animated feature film that, in addition to pleasing the public, also needs to erase the stain left when the plumber appeared in the cinema for the first time in 1993.
The producers of Super Mario Bros knew how to choose very well which songs would be included in the feature film. It's a great mix of many classic sounds that fans have heard when turning on their video game, with famous compositions from popular culture.
The result of all this is poetry that pleases the ears very well and draws a big smile from those who know them. I was particularly enchanted and impressed at the same time. I remembered good times on the Nintendo Switch even when I was a kid and played some “Softendo” games.
Plus, fans of Super Mario's new big-screen adventure can now join Shrek fans and sing along to “I Need a Hero,” which is just one of several you'll recognize as you follow along on this journey.
The original songs, or the little musical acts that occasionally occur in the feature film, are also funny. I'm not saying they're perfect, since they're scenes aimed at making the audience laugh or at least make us wonder how they managed to think of that. So, in the end, we have a very good result and able to please everyone.
It is important to stress that despite being a film aimed at children, with characters made to be charismatic with the younger audience, any fan of the Super Mario universe can feel satisfied with the result.
The feature film has a very good nostalgia factor and manages to appeal to all audiences and this is very difficult to do. Whether in small objects inserted by the scenery that only call the attention of those most attentive or even scenes that seem to be taken straight from one of the many titles.
It's what almost everyone expected, actually. A show of references that fits very well as the plot progresses, well-crafted fan service to also make sense with the plot. I already wanted to apologize for the pun, but there is a familiar face in each barrel of this work.
By far, this is one of the strongest points of the entire Super Mario Bros. movie, a true journey through everything that Nintendo has produced in its long history in the digital games market, which makes us wish for more. Yes, despite recognizing several faces, many of which have already appeared in the trailer, alongside other unreleased names, we still managed to miss a few things.
Another aspect that made my eyes shine was, in addition to showing the entire Mario universe, they also showed Donkey Kong, which share the same “world”. It is simply sensational, charismatic and very well done. It is possible to notice every detail and references such as “blowing the cartridge”, “playing super nintendo – SNES”, among others.
For these details, some with deeper meanings or even simpler references, the Super Mario Bros. becomes a real love letter to fans of the mustache, giving them a new and bigger universe, but without scaring with the news. In fact, we felt right at home.
Regarding the dubbing of the film, I must confess and affirm that our dubbing of the film in Brazilian Portuguese is incredible and impeccable, since we chose to keep the “Italian” accent for which the plumber became known and this adds a lot to the issue of familiarity with the story.
Not only is Mario's voice very good, but so are the cast of characters who accompany him on his journey. They all seemed to fit together well, which goes to show that the affection for the final product wasn't just something from the animation studio and Nintendo itself, but from everyone involved in the project.
Therefore, if you only want to go to the cinema once and are in doubt about which one to choose, choose to watch the version of mario movie dubbed and localized to Brazilian Portuguese. Voices familiar to us and the dubbing direction choices are factors that add a lot to make the experience even more fantastic.
Within that same point of dubbing and voices, I can also mention the charisma present in all the characters of the Super Mario Bros. That's because we can see that all of them were well planned, without being complex, but thought to be funny and comic relief in several scenes.
Longtime fans of the Super Mario game know that the game's forte was never the story of the mustachioed plumber. The story for the most part has always been very simple, where you needed to pass several stages, jump on enemies, break blocks and discover that your princess is in another castle, among others.
In parts, this low plot complexity was also maintained in the film. The story is far from being the most interesting point, but it is still able to absorb the thousands of references inserted in a way that makes sense within the right context and at the right time, something that Nintendo knows how to do very well.

Conclusion
The Super Mario Bros movie. is having a great success in the countries where the data have already been released. As of the time of my review of the film, the total gross of the feature film is approximately US$ 830 million, around R$ 4.1 billion in direct conversion to Brazilian currency.
In addition, the new adventure of the Nintendo franchise in theaters also broke some records, being the best debut of an animation in recent times. Which is certainly something impressive and fully deserved for the quality of the film.
I have no hesitation in saying that the film will be worth every penny invested in your ticket. It's designed in a way that balances masterfully between pleasing veteran Mario fans and also a new generation of audiences.
This proves that the Super Mario universe, conceived by the brilliant mind of Miyamoto, is generational and although many games have appeared over the years, the charisma of the mustachioed plumber will always charm new audiences.
If you're older, you might not laugh at everything in the movie – which I honestly find quite difficult, I assure you – but you'll certainly get that feeling of nostalgia and wonderful memories.
I'm sure that just like me, you'll feel like a kid again, sitting in front of the television and experiencing that game for the first time and having a good laugh and being totally entertained.
