The CEO of Take-Two expressed support for the acquisition of Activision by Microsoft, in a recent interview with IGN. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the company, was asked his opinion regarding the acquisition agreement.
Strauss Zelnick responded that Take-Two has been supportive of the deal for some time, saying it would be a boon for Take-Two's partner Microsoft. He declared: "What's good for them is also good for the industry." Following the CMA's recent ruling against the deal, based on concerns that Microsoft could gain a dominant position in the cloud gaming market, Strauss Zelnick reiterated his earlier comments about this technology.
He emphasized that cloud gaming is just a "distribution method" and does not constitute a separate business. According to him, while new forms of distribution, such as cloud gaming, can expand the gaming market, all of this is still part of the broader gaming market at its core.
I think it's important never to confuse a delivery technology with a business model,” said Zelnick. “I would love to believe that streaming our titles would expand the market enormously. I'm not sure there's any reason to believe that.
