JOHN TRAVOLTA AS FORREST

Originally, the role of Forrest Gump was offered to John Travolta and Chevy Chase, but both turned it down. Director Robert Zemeckis chose Tom Hanks after seeing him in “Philadelphia” and “Sleepless in Seattle”.

SCRIPT HAS CHANGED

The film's original script was very different from what was seen on screen. It included scenes in which Forrest Gump is an astronaut and encounters chimpanzees, as well as a different ending in which Forrest becomes a boxer.

The famous scene where Forrest runs along Route 66 was inspired by a true story. During the 1980s, a man named Louis Michael Figueroa ran 2,000 miles along Route 66 to raise funds for charity.

The scene where Forrest meets President John F. Kennedy was created using computer graphics technology to insert Tom Hanks into historic footage. This was one of the first times this technique was used in a film.
