For those who are not very familiar, Hogwarts is a fictional school of witchcraft and wizardry that was created by the British author J.K. Rowling for the series of books by Harry Potter. This school is where Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley studied, along with many other witches and wizards. With that in mind, we've separated some pretty cool facts about Hogwarts that you may never have heard of or don't know about!
Hogwarts Houses
Hogwarts has four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Each house is represented by a color and an animal: Gryffindor is red and gold, represented by a lion; Slytherin is green and silver, represented by a snake; Ravenclaw is blue and bronze, represented by an eagle; Hufflepuff is yellow and black, represented by a badger.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was founded in 990 AD by four powerful wizards: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin.
Hogwarts Main Hall
The Great Hall at Hogwarts has an enchanted ceiling that mimics the sky. The ceiling changes with the time of day and seasons, so sometimes students can see the stars or the moon.
Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets
The Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts is a dark and spooky place that was created by Salazar Slytherin. It is a place where a giant monster, a serpent called Basilisk, lives. The chamber was first opened by Tom Riddle, who later became the Dark Lord, and who controlled the serpent.

Classes at Hogwarts are taught by witches and wizards, and some of the subjects include Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Potions, History of Magic, Study of Ancient Runes, Divination and Astronomy.

Hogwarts is protected by powerful spells and enchantments that prevent unauthorized people from entering the castle. The land is also surrounded by a lake, which is home to many magical creatures.
Ghosts at Hogwarts
The best-known Hogwarts ghost is the Gryffindor ghost, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, better known as Nearly Headless Nick. There are also the ghosts of other houses, such as the Gray Lady of Ravenclaw and the Bloody Baron of Slytherin.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat
The Sorting Hat is a magical object that determines the house a student will be placed in. The hat has a personality of its own and can talk to the student while deciding which house is best for them.
Quidditch Games
The Hogwarts Quidditch team is one of the most famous in the wizarding world. The school has a Quidditch court and is known for producing exceptional players such as Harry Potter and Oliver Wood.
