How to use Magnifier on macOS

Magnifying glass

macOS has a built-in tool called “Magnifier” that lets you enlarge parts of your screen to make it easier to read or use apps. In this article here at Coliseu Geek, we will explain how to use the magnifying glass in macOS in a simple and practical way. You'll see that it's just a few steps and that's it! 🙂

Step 1: Open the Magnifier

There are two ways to open Magnifier on macOS:

  • Click on the Apple button in the upper left corner of the screen and select "System Preferences". Then select “Accessibility” and, finally, click on “Magnifying glass”;
  • Press the Command + Option + 8 keys on your keyboard to activate Magnifier.

Step 2: Configure the Magnifier

After opening Magnifier, you can configure it according to your needs:

  • To zoom in or out, use the scroll bar or press the Command + or Command – keys on your keyboard;
  • To choose the type of zoom, click on “Magnifier Options” and select one of the available options, such as “Total Magnifier” or “Window Magnifier”;
  • To choose the zoom level, click on “Zoom Settings” and adjust the zoom according to your needs.

Now that you've set up Magnifier, you can use it to magnify parts of your screen. Just position the mouse cursor in the desired area and the Magnifier will automatically enlarge. If you are using the “Windowed Magnifier” option, the Magnifier will follow the mouse cursor as you move the pointer.

Also, you can turn on Magnifier temporarily by pressing the Option + Command + “=” keys on your keyboard. This will zoom in on the area where the mouse cursor is positioned.

Magnifier is a useful tool on macOS for people who are visually impaired or who need to enlarge parts of their screen to make it easier to read or use apps. With this article, we hope we have helped you to use Magnifier on macOS efficiently and easily.
