Review: Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3

Much awaited by fans, “Dark Souls 3” was released to Playstation 4, Xbox one and PRAÇA like a first date with that person you've secretly admired for years, but just now worked up the courage to try to conquer. “Dark Souls III” can be considered as unexpected, harrowing, frightening and unforgettable. Find out in my review whether or not it's worth buying the game!

The most notable and striking change between Dark Souls 3 and its predecessors is in the combat system. A FromSoftware knows well that this has always been one of the most important pillars of the series experience, managing to further improve the battle experience, to please both the most experienced player and those who have never tried Dark Souls.

Fights are slightly more fast-paced and dynamic, thanks to the addition of special abilities for each of the dozens of weapons you find. These skills, calledWeapon Arts“, add a new layer of strategy to duels, as well as an incentive to test and try new equipment.

Another significant change is the return of the Mana Bar, something we haven't seen since Demon's Souls. It allows spells to be used more permissively, which will certainly generate more diverse and fun matches both in solo mode and in combats against other players.

The history of Dark Souls III is, like its predecessors: mysterious, vague, with missions in absolutely optional doses. Is it possible to play totally ignoring what's going on in that world, focused only on the beautiful combat systems and the delicious pleasure of beating that impossible boss.

The settings are dazzling and oppressive, the enemies are bizarre and menacing… All of these details are as well thought out and crafted as any other element in the game. When you "enter" the experience, you will probably want to face the challenge of chewing, on your own and without any help, the plot that surrounds it.

The difficulty curve is much more honest and constant, thanks to the gradual presentation of the concepts that form the game, and the linearity of its first hours before “opening the world” for the player to explore its optional areas, exactly as it happens in bloodborne.

“Dark Souls” has always been fair to its players. However, Dark Souls 3 he also seems to be a little more patient and interested in educating (or even indoctrinating) those who have never faced a game in the franchise. But calm down, old-timer: this does not mean that the game has become easier or more permissive. His mistakes and impertinences remain, as always, grounds for capital punishment.

Yes, Dark Souls III is too hard, as much as any of its predecessors. However, the way the difficulty is built in the game helps to slightly demystify the concept that the “Dark Souls” series is impossible. Additionally, the design team's stages Hidetaka Miyazaki, is based on incredible precision in the elaboration of the maps, with the positioning of items, enemies, challenges and traps in strategic points.

This time, the laziest player won't be able to put the blame on the game, in fact. That's because, that old franchise adage: what every action will have a consequence and that it will never be unfair, is more noticeable and dynamic than ever in Dark Souls 3, making it one of the best, if not the best game in the series.

My opinion
  • Graphics
  • Interface
  • Fun
  • Gameplay
  • Functionalities
4.6

Conclusion

Dark Souls 3” retain the essence of its predecessors, but is far more dynamic, fierce and captivating than ever, the third installment of the saga proves that Dark Souls is much more than a simple new game.

“Dark Souls III” is a game where, for every mistake you make, you will be punished, but every effort and dedication you dedicate to the game will be duly rewarded.
