Review: Rocket League

rocket league

Rocket League is the sequel to the game “Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars”. And just like the first game, this one follows a very creative premise: If we create football games, with highly customizable cars and the ability to double jump, what would happen? the producer Psyonix decided to answer that question. The game achieves this objective in a highly entertaining way and with a spectacular graphics engine (Unreal Engine). Released on July 7th, the game does not feature any kind of story, focusing completely on multiplayer and teamwork between players, either in 2 against 2, 3 against 3 or 4 against 4 mode (there is also the possibility of 1 vs 1 mode).

There are 3 modes: Season, where the player builds his own team (the player plus 1 to 3 bots) to go against teams of bots. Exhibition, where a player can add up to 3 other local players to train against a team of up to 4 computers with 3 types of difficulties, Novice (easy), Professional (medium) and Idol (difficult). And Jogar Online, which (clearly) seeks matches for the gamer to participate in from 1 against 1 to 4 against 4.

And to make the game fair, no car is better than another, just bigger or smaller and prettier or not. Therefore, a car that a player received at level 20 could be the same one that a newbie received in his first game. And as said in the first paragraph, the game has up to 11 cars and each one with a certain variety of decals, wheels, turbos, antennas and even hats.

It is worth noting that the game does not have a very stable connection to the servers, causing drops, lags and other types of problems related to the internet. The game does not have voice acting, there is not even a voice present during the gameplay, however all written content was translated into Brazilian Portuguese.

Rocket League is extremely fun, super easy to play and beautiful to look at. It's definitely worth it and will guarantee great fun for a long time! The game came out for PC and PS4 on July 7th and is free for PSN players with the PS Plus service during this month.
