Phil expressed his dissatisfaction with the criticism of Redfall, as the game was massacred by journalists and gamers alike.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer on Redfall: “I'm pissed at myself. The critical response was not what we wanted.” He praises Arkane, but says “the team didn't meet their own internal goals when they released the game.
There's nothing harder for me than to let the Xbox community down. To see the community lose trust and be disappointed, I am disappointed. I'm upset with myself. Let's revisit our process.
As for Redfall's ratings, we conducted mock ratings and the game achieved double-digit scores, which led to the belief that the real ratings would be much higher. We had no idea that the game would receive ratings as low as 60. Compared to our internal metrics, Redfall was underwhelming.
Arkane is taking internal feedback into account and committing to achieving a framerate of 60 frames per second, as well as working on other improvements to the game. I acknowledge and take responsibility for releasing an excellent game, especially considering the $70 price tag.
I understand that some people are calling for my resignation as I am highly compensated, but we are fully committed to working on Redfall, supporting the team and their creative ambitions and, above all, satisfying the players.
Redfall arrived filled with bugs, optimization issues on PC, lack of support for 60 FPS on Xbox Series, AI issues and much more…
Redfall is available now on PC, Xbox and Xbox Game Pass.
