7 curious facts about Planet Earth

Increasingly, everything around us evolves at an incredible speed. The way our Planet Earth grows, regenerates and maintains everything and everyone is incredible.

Although Planet Earth is just a small blue dot compared to the immensity of our entire giant universe, the space we inhabit has a huge amount of secrets and every day it surprises us more with its particularities.

With that in mind, we made a special list here at Super Info with seven peculiar facts about Planet Earth for you to learn even more about our home. Then tell us which one you liked the most! 🙂

1 – Aristotle knew about the shape of Planet Earth

Believe it or not, even before flat-Earthers became a trend in the 21st century, the classic philosopher Aristotle always knew that our Planet Earth it wasn't plan. In several of his works, he describes how moving from north to south makes you see different stars in the sky. The result of a horizon shift would not occur on a Flat Earth.

2 – Population of our Planet Earth

Although we currently live on a planet with a vast amount of diversity, humans and farm animals represent 90% of all terrestrial vertebrates that roam Planet Earth. In addition, we are the ones who consume most of the natural resources of all other living beings. Between 25% and 40% of all energy captured by plants is used by humans as well as livestock.

3 – The Oceans of our Planet Earth

On Planet Earth, there are exactly five great oceans, namely: the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and the Southern Ocean. The last one on the list, however, is not yet recognized by all institutions and countries around the planet earth. In fact, several teaching sources only consider the first three on the list.

4 - The Origin and Formation of Planet Earth

In practice, we do not know exactly how long the Earth took to form completely, all numbers in "billions", "millions" of years are scientific estimates taking into account our Gregorian calendar. However, there are some estimates that can help us understand this situation. Recently, a study by the University of Copenhagen suggests that it took 5 million years for “everything was ready” — half the time pointed out by other researchers.

5 – The True Size of Greenland

Many years ago, several maps created through the Mercator projection used to elongate the areas of the countries closest to the planet's poles. In practice, this means that countries like Greenland were distorted and appeared to be much larger than they actually were at the time. We can even think that Greenland is the size of Africa looking at the images, but the truth is that the island would fit 14 times inside the African continent.

6 – Species we know on our Planet Earth

Without a doubt, humans can even be considered the dominant species on our planet – despite not agreeing with 100%, but in a matter of numbers, more than 70% of the species we know to date are insects – totaling more than 2 million. For that reason, it's not at all bizarre to find an ant anywhere you walk.

7 – Much of the Food on Planet Earth

Amazingly, just four food crops account for two-thirds of the world's food supply today, with the following commodities being wheat, corn, rice and soybeans. In fact, reducing this dependence is a way that researchers have encouraged to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions in the Earth's atmosphere.

And you, what did you think of these curiosities about our Planet Earth? 🙂
