Review: Grand Theft Auto V

GTA 5 (GTA V) is the new game in the well-known open world series (SandBox) by Rockstar Games. Back to the city of Los Santos, same as GTA San Andreas, full of new features, the game stands as one of the best games of all, considering that it is also the most expensive in history, with an estimated cost of US$ 266 million. Review in new generation console!

It's been more than six years since the successful launch of GTA IV. Last year (2013), Grand Theft Auto 5 arrived initially for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 abusing the characteristics that made the franchise famous and, mainly, adding tons of new elements and content to the successful formula.

When starting to play the game, players will be introduced to the main change in mechanics, the insertion of three protagonists. Michael, a former bank robber, Trevor, a psychopath, a drug dealer, and Franklin, a young member of a gang, unite in organizing and executing different types of crimes and missions throughout the city of Los Santos.

The game still saves a lot of space for the traditional and well-received personal dramas of the characters, which yield good stories and even some missions, such as the mission in which the character Michael goes for a bike ride with his son and ends up involved in a mess. on a boat.

Another highlight is robberies aimed at banks and stores, which need to be well planned and in advance. Through planning, it will be possible to recruit helpers (who keep a certain amount of money) and choose between different applied strategies.

In GTA 5, it will be quite common to observe that the game is the heaviest and most controversial of the series. A Rockstar Games seems to have been less concerned with making the experience less rude, leaving for an even more violent and direct course. Shots in the face, torture and scenes inappropriate for minors direct the game even more towards an adult audience.

The story takes place in Los Santos, a fictional and beautiful version of Los Angeles, which was the stage for the successful GTA San Andreas, game of the last generation (2005). Despite retaining some points and style seen in San Andreas, the map has been completely remodeled, being the largest ever seen in a game of the Rockstar.

Buildings, highways, streets, intersections, countryside, rivers, every part of the city was built with the smallest details and with total care. In noble areas it is easy to find luxury cars and well-dressed people, while the more modest (rural) areas are inhabited by old vehicles and even animals crossing the streets.

Some places that were successful in San Andreas remain in the city, only partially or completely refurbished. The best known so far is the famous and adored Groove Street, region inhabited by the protagonist CJ, in San Andreas.

In addition, several East Eggs were very well implemented into the game, such as San Andreas characters passing by on bicycles when arriving near Groove Street at a specific time. There is even a wiki complete about the famous East Eggs of GTA V.

The power of the latest generation consoles meant not only the expected increase in visual quality, but also in the activity of the city, the cars in circulation, people busy with their lives, walking at different paces and with different random concerns.

The visuals are even more surprising, especially in terms of magnitude, the distance we can see the elements, the behavior of light in different textures, the way shadows are reflected and change according to the movement of the sun and our perspective.

I can't say it was a surprise or something new, but combined with the behavior of the totally immersive world, it encourages the so-called immersion, that is, it is very easy to get lost (at first) in the city of Los Santos.

Grand Theft Auto V also gained a wide variety of vehicles. Following the pattern of the games in the series, these are clearly “similar” versions of great current cars, such as: Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, Mustang, among others. Generally, these vehicles spawn in downtown Los Santos (Noble Area).

All vehicles can be customized in your own way, with the addition of parts, different paint jobs and changing wheels. In addition, the respective performance of customized vehicles is also changed, making them faster and more agile to control.

As in the game's map, the vehicles are also surprisingly well finished, full of reflections and details such as scratches, dents and even missing parts. As we can see, the cars in GTA V withstand much more crashes than in GTA IV, avoiding the classic task of constantly changing vehicles.

Rockstar appropriated very successful resources from other games released by the company, such as the beloved aiming system of Max Payne 3, which makes shooting much more accurate and, at the same time, fun. The news makes the experience much more complete and well finished.

Now, when it comes to gameplay, we can say that in GTA 5 there are significant changes in car control, which is even easier, but less realistic. Apparently, the steering is more agile and quick, allowing for last minute sharp turns.

The difference between small and large vehicles has also been remodeled, so much so that the weight influences the direction and makes the control vibrate, which does a beautiful job simulating the unevenness of the asphalt.

The audio remains at an incredible quality. GTA 5 features top-notch dubbing, a soundtrack with more than 150 songs from different eras and the priceless radios (literally), which bring the game to life with news and auditorium programs, as well as the latest from Los Santos, including crimes committed by the trio.

In addition, it is the first time that a Rockstar game arrives fully subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese. The lines are all well translated, emulating the characteristic style of each of the characters. However, they are not free from small errors and some exaggerations, both in style and in the weight of the translations (with a lot of profanity).

Without a doubt, R$ 199 BRL in the game are worth every penny. That's because, we're not talking about any title that will sell out in just a few hours. The fact is that in the city of Los Santos you will be able to make the most of everything it has to offer and, of course, it will take a lot, a lot of time. Good fun! 🙂
