Review: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

The new game in the franchise features two new protagonists: Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. However, both characters are already known to fans of Uncharted, since both were already supporting in previous versions. And such success made them chosen to star in the new title.

The choice was exceptional. On the contrary Nathan Drake, who always carried a longtime companion on his adventures – his old friend sullivan or your brother sam – Chloe does not carry an old friendship with the former paramilitary leader and, now, assassin for hire. Both are linked by interest and have strong personalities with short fuses, bringing an extra element to the storytelling.

In other words, while playing with Nathan Drake there are always those friendly dialogues with a good dose of humor, Chloe and Nadine, as they are two mercenaries, they maintain a friendly, but surrounded by fears and suspicions. It's interesting how much this matures over the course of the story in a not-so-forced way. There are a number of elements that justify the approach of the two over the dangers they both face, even giving rise to another title starring the duo.

when the game it was officially announced, many thought that Uncharted: Lost Legacy it was just a great DLC for the fourth chapter of the Uncharted franchise. However, the game proves to be much more than that, becoming by far one of the best games in the series.

One of the great reasons is precisely the similarity with the predecessor Uncharted 4. Although the plot has no connection, other elements show that The Lost Legacy drank from the same source, which pleases his acclaimed fans. The format is standard for the franchise: exploring ruins, solving puzzles, a few plot surprises, and a heroic ending.

The big difference is the way this story develops. If in other titles in the franchise, Nathan Drake and everyone else traveled the world to solve their goals, in The Lost Legacy the India and the single focus. This helps to maintain the fast pace of the plot, which gives way to long animation scenes to build one adventure on top of another. Maybe that's why many may find the game a little too "short". Even so, it will take more or less 10 hours to finish it.

Furthermore, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy also features the largest free roaming of the franchise. Not quite a true open map (sandbox), like most games these days, but it's a huge area in which Chloe and Nadine need to explore with their jeep to find their objectives. This breaks the linearity of the plot a little and helps, mainly, in the search for the more than 100 collectibles that the game makes available.

We know that the Uncharted 4 is considered by many as one of the games with the most beautiful graphics of the current generation, the position was taken, but the trophy remains at home. The Lost Legacy features even more incredible scenery than anything seen in Drake's latest adventure. Although they are all based on the same setting – the lost forests and ruins of India – the level of detail in each location is impressive. It is impossible not to be enchanted by the statues of the Hoysala Empire, the animals that inhabit the forests and, of course, the abandoned buildings where Chloe and Nadine venture out. The experience is amazing!

The animations also maintain the high standard of the franchise. The facial expressions and movements of the characters, especially in combat, are jaw-dropping. It is almost mandatory to use the Photo Mode of the game to immortalize many of these action scenes, or incredible locations that only Uncharted is able to provide. Another practically irretouchable element in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and the gameplay. Considered the biggest highlight of the franchise, the mechanics that created this identity to the game were faithfully maintained, even with the change of protagonists.

However, there is room for big news. The first of these is a system that Chloe uses to pick locks. With it, it is possible to unlock special boxes of items that give a certain advantage in the game, such as granting pistols with silencers or explosives. The other concerns the interaction between the characters in the puzzles. In addition to giving important tips for completion, Nadine also assists Chloe in solving some puzzles. The same goes for moments of combat, with your companion favoring the enemies that pose the greatest danger at that moment.

The way online multiplayer is one of the great advantages of Uncharted: Lost Legacy. It lets you play the same modes with players who own the previous title in the franchise: Uncharted 4. That way, you only need to have one of the games to have fun with matches that unite players of both games.

The advantage is that, since the launch of Lost Legacy, new items and characters are available for both games. The same goes for all the multiplayer updates that have already been released for Uncharted 4. There's also the Survival Mode in which players must survive waves of enemies. It is playable in co-op mode and includes the characters featured in the main campaign of Uncharted: Lost Legacy.
