Review: Forza Motorsport 7

During the E3 2017, Microsoft showed the first official trailer for Forza Motorsport 7. First of all, it is important to remember that Forza Motorsport 7 is Microsoft's great way to show off the firepower of the new Xbox One X, its new console prepared for new technologies on the market. Thanks to powerful new console specs, Forza Motorsport 7 runs on 4K resolution and 60 frames per second native, no stuttering. Another interesting feature is that climate variations are no longer just a mode, as they were in the Forza Motorsport 6, and now are dynamic. That is, you can start a race with the sun at its peak and a clear sky and, little by little, see the rain coming to the circuit. At the end of the run, being able to see a hand in front of you it will be very lucky.

To get an idea of the level of detail, parts that were previously considered “dead” in the racing game have now come to life. This is the case, for example, of the mirrors, which now sway because of the wind outside the cockpit or rattle in a more aggressive attack on the curb. It's the kind of concern that Turn 10 Studios had to bring a realism never seen before.

Still, in Forza Motorsport 7 you have 30 circuits and more than 200 race customization options for the player. The game also brings together the most Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche that a racing game has ever seen, and a total of 700 breathtaking vehicles. In other words, they are 150 more vehicles that in Forza Motorsport 6. Oh, and speaking of Porsche, the German manufacturer closed a six-year contract with Microsoft, putting an end to the old partnership that existed with Electronic Arts and the Need for Speed series.

In a sort of commemoration of this new phase, the automaker made the stage of the E3 2017 an automobile show, and for the first time in history presented a new model from the GT line there. We are talking about Porsche 2018 911 GT2RS, which is also the official cover for Forza Motorsport 7.

Forza Motorsport 7 is a charming game, just like its predecessors. Finally the Horizon franchise, the little brother, has begun to return the favor to the series Motorsport by, well, have given you life, Is not it? This came through the excellent work done by the development team of forza horizon 3 in the development of new textures for the skies of the game and that has now been improved in great style in Forza 7.

The “icing on the cake” is that, being a game considered as flagship that comes to extract everything that the Xbox One hardware has to offer, everything runs in 1080p and 60 frames per second without showing any signs of having performance problems. Even better, if you have a PC or even a Xbox One X, you can make the most of everything in 4K and 60 frames per second. How wonderful, isn't it? 😀

It is worth pointing out that, on the PC, there are cases in which the game presented optimization problems, especially in the multi-threading part, resulting in poor use of processor cores. These problems are similar to those that had already been seen in the launch of forza horizon 3.

Another positive aspect worth highlighting is the new dynamic weather present during races. Different from what happened in Forza Motorsport 6, where you could choose to race on a rainy version of the track, it is now possible to determine what the probability of rain is at the beginning, middle or end of the event, so customized or automatic.

In addition, the automatic transition effect is extremely easy on the eyes, looks very natural and the rain itself is simply very realistic. Seeing the cloudy sky getting more and more closed and dark, the first drops of rain falling, the puddles progressively appearing and everything turning into a storm, with lightning and thunder is something really very cool.

Oh! We cannot forget to remind you that, on some tracks, the light effect of dynamic weather is also present natively, with the sun setting or rising at certain times, but this is not customizable – nothing that breaks the immersion too much. already expected from Forza 7.

The sound part of Forza Motorsport 7 it also took an important step in its evolution and, if in the sixth edition of the game it was already good, now it is even better with new features. The roar of the vehicles, the creak in the sudden reductions, the whistling of the turbines of the Japanese cars, everything continues to sound brilliantly well, providing a incredible realism.

In racing cars, for example, the cockpit camera brings the reverberation effect of the interior without any kind of acoustic insulation. Soon, it is possible to hear the noise of the equipment rattling inside the vehicle, the tires give the warning when they are at the maximum limit of grip and the other effects are of a really exceptional quality – an improvement that seemed difficult to achieve in view of the great work done. in the last two games of the franchise.

A point that was mentioned in the Forza Motorsport 6 review, which was the soundtrack, has finally been improved substantially. Although only present in the menus and in the background in specific parts of the tracks, what was once an attempt to make everything awesome with epic music is now a smart selection of more immersive sounds.

THE Forza Motorsport 7 demo made a lot of people turn up their noses at the way the Porsche 911 GT2 RS behaved, but in my view the change in physics and gameplay can and should be considered as very welcome - one of the things that did a lot to end the fear that the game was coming "more of the same", literally.

This change, in a less abrupt way than usual, came to all the other vehicles in the game, which now have a better feeling of weight and, on the other hand, offer a much more precise and, guess what: realistic steering. Some vehicles are easier to drive than others, it's true, but this variety is one of the great attractions and differentials of the game.

Anyone in need can always resort to assists, which go a long way in keeping the car where it belongs: in the asphalt. For the more experienced, just turn everything off and go through a brief adaptation period and you shouldn't have any problems if you're used to previous versions of the game.

Dynamic rain also influences (and a lot!) the gameplay and takes away grip as the surface becomes more slippery. The puddles, which were tricky to Forza Motorsport 6, now appear procedurally and impact in a much less traumatic way, which makes driving in the rain easier. challenging, but pleasant at the same time.
