Review: Gears 5

After practically five sequels, this being the second on Xbox One, Gears (that now is no longer “Of War”) consolidates itself as one of Microsoft's biggest franchises for its exclusive console. What started as a single shooter against aliens on Xbox, today has a sensational universe, whose plot can be expansive beyond the games. But will the game really deliver all the expectations of the players? Check it out in my full review!

Gears 5 shows how vast this universe is, playing with creating new directions in history, reliving situations that for many went unnoticed, and even creating twists that have already become a trademark of the series. In practice, Gears 5 continues the franchise's most up-to-date storyline, which began in gears of war 4. In the spotlight, there is an incredible group composed of Kait Diaz, del walker, JD and marcus fenix – the most famous character in the series.

Although the young Fenix is the focus of attention in the first moment of the game, it is Kait who shines in Gears 5, accomplishing much of what the previous game already pointed out, that is, Gears of War 4. In short, the young woman needs to deal with ghosts of the past, at the same time that much of his history, and especially that of his parents, begins to be revealed in fact and finally to the player.

In addition, it is super valid to highlight the excellent graphics of Gears 5, which have always been an element in which Gears of War was a reference. And the new Gears 5 does not miss a bit in this regard, on the contrary, it is not an exaggeration for someone to say that the game has the look most beautiful and realistic ever created to date, either in the composition of its characters and settings, as in the setting and breathtaking animation scenes.

It is so interesting the confidence that Gears 5 gives us, including, in each chapter, you will certainly see a richer world in detail and setting and you will be literally impressed. In particular, from my experience I can highlight the second chapter that impresses from the first steps in the icy world to its farewell full of very well designed action scenes. Who follow my streams on YouTube you know, on several occasions I “disconnected from life and comments” to admire the landscapes.

Another important aspect to be mentioned is: even the franchise's characters and their well-known frowning composition have seen significant improvements. They make them not so brutal, at the same time that they don't lose their characteristics, bringing a softer trait both in the composition of their physical structures, as well as in armor and clothing.

Even so, I was very positively impressed with the enormous care taken with every detail of the hundreds of regions I passed through throughout the entire plot of the new Gears 5. From a laboratory with surgical tools lined up on a table, to houses destroyed with the what was left of his furniture, all with a very realistic composition. It really is a very vivid experience and full of emotions for anyone who plays.

Now let's go to the most awaited and important aspect: the gameplay. We all know that the gameplay of gears of war is always a subject that generates many discussions on the internet, for several reasons. At the same time that it is defended by its legion of Gears of War fans, another part of the public questions whether it would be a mechanic “more of the same” – for many even the most disliked element in the franchise.

At my personal opinion, what the game proposes, Gears 5 does its homework very well and brings a gameplay almost identical to what was presented in gears of war 4. In other words, Gears 5 still brings as a key element its entire incredible coverage system, which many have tried to copy, but few have been successful and masterfully. However, there is no doubt that there is also room for some innovations.

The first innovation implemented by The Coalition Studios and the one that caught my attention the most to be honest is the robot, affectionately known as jack (it's not Jackie Chan, okay? 😀 ). It has a number of functions, such as: paralyzing opponents, opening doors and breaking into safes. It also serves as an excuse for the franchise to have a skill system (skills), even if it is still simple and of little influence on progress.

In Gears 5, the robot Jack will certainly be a great ally on your journey, as each action greatly affects all the combat mechanics. For better context, know that it is now possible, for example: to reveal several enemies that insist on taking cover behind structures in a matter of seconds. The Jack robot can also send out a powerful shock that lifts the opponent and makes them vulnerable to being targeted. In addition, the robot also brings defensive skills, which create temporary and very resistant armor for the characters, among others.

in relation to multiplayer mode (or multiplayer mode in English), here is some important information. First, the early access to the game through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and even an invitation I received from Microsoft Brazil before (#OthanksMicrosoft), the online mode was very strange and full of problems when connecting to the internet. It was very bizarre. However, at the time of writing this review, all the bugs I've encountered that I remember have been properly resolved, but it's important to mention that it got messed up.

in the mode Gears 5 multiplayer, we have a huge variety of Modes, which helps to extend the life of the game. Your Versus Mode remains largely unchanged, with matches: One vs All, Team vs. Team, among others. Highlight your character customization, which includes Sarah Connor and the familiar metallic skull like T-800, both fruits of a partnership between Gears 5 and the franchise movie Terminator. O Horde Mode, returning by fan demand, pits you and four other players against up to 50 waves of enemies, with increasing difficulty.

Now, in the traditional Escape Mode, for example, arrives as one of the great attractions of Gears 5. That's because in this mode, you and three other players need to flee a certain area with limited resources and a time to be fulfilled. However, there are strategy and competitive elements that make the mode even more attractive. In addition to a ranking with a separate score, the resources available on the map, weapons and ammunition, are unique, that is, you and your companions fight for the same items. Still, a good recommendation is the option to create maps and share them with the community.
