CEO of Warner Bros. hints that Superman game is in development

During a conference call, Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, highlighted the potential and flexibility of the company's electronic games. David emphasized how the company's intellectual property franchises can be adapted for all forms of interactive entertainment, including feature films and games.

David Zaslav cited the multi-billion dollar success of Hogwarts Legacy as an example of how the company's IP could be integrated into movies and games in the future. He also directly mentioned the upcoming film by Super man, titled Superman: Legacy, directed by James Gunn.

Henry Cavill Denied Returning to Superman in Film

We have a great gaming business with 11 different studios and a real talent pool. But the real differentiator for us as a company is that we own our intellectual property. This intellectual property belongs to us, and we are developing it, and in some cases we may choose to develop it with a third-party game technology company.

We may be the only media company that has – whether it's the DC universe, Harry Potter, all the content we own, Game of Thrones – for us to deploy. I think this is particularly important strategically.

If you look at Hogwarts Legacy, a big part of the success of that game is that you get into it. If you are a player, you enter this game and you are in this world. This is kind of a new concept. Before it was game and narrative, and now… it's very difficult to understand what the metaverse is…

When we launch a product on Max or HBO, and when we have a game, that game belongs to us, but now there's this intermediary. It could be in the next few years that we release a Superman movie and… people spend more time and there's more economy of people just spending time in Superman's world and universe.

The fact that we own all of that is something that I think will be very important as we go forward – as technology develops and given how much time people spend playing games, we don't want to be in the business of movies and long storytelling and have someone else in the business of spending time in these worlds. These worlds will be quite profitable for years to come.
