“Brazilian version Herbert Richers“: who has never heard this ad at the beginning of any film, series or animation shown in Brazil? Especially in the 1990s and 2000s. Herbert Richers was a great entrepreneur and film producer who founded, in the 1950s, the popular company Herbert Richers that would become the largest in Latin America.
on the television show Focused Media, from TV Brasil, the actor and producer Herbert Richers Junior tells a little about the history of his father's studio, which began to take off only in the late 1960s after a deal with Disney.
“Dad started not only to dub, but also to represent Disney Television in Brazil. And that was the deal. So from then on he started investing in dubbing because he had a percentage of what Disney sold to Brazilian television,” he says.
Herbert Richers Júnior also remembers that his father's production scheme was industrial.
“In a bad year he produced four/five films, sometimes eight. Eight feature films a year, with everyone under contract”, he highlights.
Large-scale production made the dubbing studio one of the biggest in America.
“There were ten dubbing studios that worked in three shifts. There were eight mixing rooms that worked 24 hours a day. There were more than 500 employees. And I dubbed 80% of what was going to air for 20/30 years”, recalls the actor.
In the 2000s, competition from smaller and lower-priced companies started the company's downfall and Herbert Richers studios ceased operations in 2010, a year after the death of their creator.
In the video above that I recently watched on the renowned Brazilian voice actor Wendel Bezerra's channel, he highlights more trivia and information about Herbert Richers that you need to know! It will be the best invested 23 minutes of your life!
